Chicken Project

We feed communities!

Chicken Project is one of the initiatives supported by Blessings4Brasil for pastors in rural areas. The project involves providing 150 chicks, along with all the materials needed to build chicken coops, and supplies for six months. The goal is for the chicks to grow up healthy and start producing eggs, which can serve as a source of food and income for the families involved. It's a sustainable way to help improve livelihoods and encourage communities.

What is the process like?

First, we survey an area and observe the needs of that community, then we seek out a church in that location and talk to the pastor of the congregation. An essential part of the project is finding a godly pastor who has the willingness and commitment to oversee the project in that location.

Before making a decision regarding who will take care of the Chicken Project, we bring this before the Lord in prayer, seeking guidance, and have several meetings with this potential pastor.

Once the decision is made, we budget for the materials needed to build the chicken coop with a construction store. Blessings4Brasil purchases all the necessary material for this and covers the costs of construction assistance.

While the chicken coop is being built, we send 150 chick eggs to start the incubation process, which varies between 15 and 20 days. During this time, the baby chicks are kept in a more controlled environment for health control and to prevent infections, which can lead to death.

After the construction is completed, and the chicks are 6 weeks old, we place them in the chicken coop, where they start to live. Blessings4Brasil also provides all the necessary resources for feeding these chicks until they are grown and start to lay eggs, which can be sold, making this system self-sustainable.

On average, hens start laying eggs between 4 and 6 months. When they start to be produced, these eggs are used to feed the pastor's family and the flock of his congregation. The eggs can also be sold to assist these families and shared with neighbors in need, who may be atheists, and in this way, we show the love of Christ to that person.

It is important to emphasize that throughout this process, we maintain daily and weekly contact with the appointed pastor to closely monitor this development. We share photos and needs, and encourage each other, constantly praying for the Lord to sustain the project and make everything go well.
